Covid-19 weekly update in Vietnam - Week 1 August, 2021

Ho Chi Minh City is gradually having its pandemic situation under control. On the contrary, the capital of Hanoi fears of facing a degradation in the prevention of the fourth outbreak.

GENERAL SUMMARY
Given that the number of new patients found in Ho Chi Minh City has had a progressive decrease, the total number of infected individuals in Vietnam remains rather high during the past week.

statistics of the pandemic in Vietnam

Over the first seven days of August, Vietnam confirmed that there were 14 provinces that hadn’t found new secondary infected cases within their territory (Lao Cai, Ninh Binh, Kon Tum, Ha Giang, Son La, Lai Chau, Tuyen Quang, Quang Tri, Nam Đinh, Yen Bai, Thai Binh, Bac Giang.) There were also 2/62 other provinces with no confirmation of new F0 cases (Bac Kan, Quang Ninh).

Meanwhile, other provinces including two big cities (Hanoi, HCMC) are prolonging their period of social distancing with the hope to better restrain the pandemic of the region. For Hanoi, the restriction order continues from Sunday 8th August until 23rd August 2021. As for HCMC, it has been under social isolation continuously since July. One way or another, the restriction will help reduce the number of new infected patients per day. The citizens are to strictly obey these orders from the government if they are truly looking forward to the day of community reintegration.

By far, the vaccination campaigns in Vietnam have shown big efforts of the medical staff in the prevention of Covid-19. As reported, there have been around 8 millions over 96,5 millions Vietnamese received vaccine injections, including nearly 900.000 of which have received full injections. Vietnam was also grateful to have received the vaccine doses sponsored by India. It is said that there would be 1 millions doses of vaccine transferred from the beloved international partner India.

HANOI PANDEMIC UPDATE
Last Monday, the capital city confirmed a new outbreak that led to a chain of suspected areas within Hanoi. The chain included almost every convenience store named Vinmart and some other supermarkets. The reason for this situation was that there had been multiple F0 discovered in the Food supply company T.N. The F0 cases had made contact with the mentioned convenience stores and supermarkets while delivering new food supplies. Therefore, all citizens that had priorly come to these places must take Covid-19 quick test to ensure that they are negative for the virus.

Since the pandemic situation in Hanoi hasn’t been under control after the first period of social isolation, the city was to continue the period until 23rd August for any further directives from local authorities. The government also had more control checkpoints set up in the city to prevent citizens from getting out of their accommodations without an appropriate reason. Although the governmental orders make it difficult for Hanoians, or any other provinces under Directive 16 order, the citizens are getting used to it day by day. After all, these quick actions are to ensure the best health safety for the country.

At the same time, the government of Vietnam asked Hanoi’s local authorities to set up green zones, orange zones and red zones in the city so as to better practice the prevention of Coronavirus expansion.

HO CHI MINH CITY PANDEMIC UPDATE
In general, in the last seven days, HCMC still remained the city with the highest number of new patients detected per day. Still, it was glad to confirm that this number was at a stable level (around 4.000 cases per day). Thanks to the tireless efforts of doctors and responsible troops in the fight against CoV, the number of new patients each day has gradually decreased. For citizens in HCMC, this can be considered as a good sign for the upcoming community reintegration. However, the local authorities cannot assure any specific conclusion for the time being. The city might once again experience a sharp rise in the number of new infected individuals in public if its residences don’t strictly follow the directives given by the government.

As the city has been under over 2 months of isolation, the government will provide life support for households with difficult living conditions (unemployment, poverty, etc.). The citizens only need to fill in an application before receiving the support.

Furthermore, there were new reports on three new resuscitation centers in HCMC. These centers will serve in the treatment for severe cases, which will reduce the overload situation in other centers and hospitals during the fight against the pandemic. Also, HCMC just finished its 5th campaign of vaccination with more than 800.000 individuals getting injected with either Astrazeneca or Moderna. The next campaign will take place accordingly with the use of four types: Astrazeneca, Moderna, Pfizer and Sinopharm. It is expected that the vaccination will be applied for about 70% of HCMC’s citizens by the end of August.
