Laos Travel Advice 2022: Things to know before traveling to Laos
Laos officially opened to international tourists from January 1, 2022. This is the first step in the national opening-up plan to revive the economy and settle down a new form of society - "new normal". From May 9th, 2022, Laos has fully reopened for tourism without any travel restrictions for vaccinated travellers. Below are the notes and suggestions about places and activities that will help tour operators bring travellers a complete trip in Laos.
1. Travel restriction
Pre - arrival:
- Fully vaccinated travellers showing a vaccination certificate may enter Laos without any testing for Covid-19 when arriving by land, air, or boat.
- Unvaccinated travellers aged 12 years and over are required to take a rapid test (ATK) no more than 48 hours before departure to Laos.
- Travelers can freely discover Laos WITHOUT QUARANTINE
- Always wear a mask in public
Foreign travellers in Laos that become infected with Covid-19 must bear all medical costs involved in treatment.
2. Visa policies
Laos allows citizens of countries with both bilateral and unilateral visa exemption agreements with the Lao People's Democratic Republic to enter Laos without a visa.
Citizens of countries that do not have a visa waiver agreement with Laos can apply for a Visa at Laos embassy or consulate abroad or via the electronic visa system (E-VISA) or apply for Visa on arrival at international border gates.
3. See and Do in Laos
In the eyes of international people, Laos is famous for its wonderful natural scenes, ethnic villages and unexplored lands. In addition, Laos is also known as the "Land of a Million Elephants". Laos does not have its own beaches but luckily it is home to many beautiful lakes and rivers.
To fully explore the beautiful scenery of Laos, you should properly spend more than 4 days on a trip to Laos. And the most ideal moment to travel to Laos is October and April.
Vientiane is the smallest capital in Southeast Asia. Although not as busy as Bangkok (Thailand) or Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Vientiane seems to have put on an unusually calm, slow pace. The wild beauty of this country along with the warmth of the people here is the point that holds back those who have once set foot in Laos. The most familiar images on the streets of Vientiane are the monks wandering in the morning and people respectfully bringing flowers to Buddha. Therefore, every street corner has the smell of incense mixed with the warm scent of Champa flowers.
The best experiences in Laos are those of being immersed in the life of the people of this country. The experience might be visiting and enjoying the ripe grapes for wine or learning the rustic methods of making coffee. Laos is also famous for many pagodas with unique architecture that will accentuate your trip. The yellow-orange colors of the pagoda will make you feel nostalgic like being lost in an ancient land. When coming to Laos, don't forget to take the time to enjoy local dishes such as Lao sticky rice, Lap, Chicken Savanakhet, Khausoy…
