WTM London 2021 - Get ready for the future of travel

Last week, the WTM London 2021 officially took place in 3 days, from November 1st to November 3rd. The show welcomed exhibitors from more than 100 countries and regions, more than 6,000 pre-registered buyers from 142 countries and travel professionals from all over the world. World Travel Market (WTM) is one of the world's largest international travel events held every November in London. WTM London 2021 is the first major global tourism event to be held since the Covid-19 pandemic, with the main theme Reconnect - Rebuild - Innovate.

The first day of WTM London 2021 is packed with business meetings, insightful conferences and press conferences. According to the annual WTM Industry Report, younger people are tending to turn to travel agents to book tours because of the confusion and problems seen during the COVID-19 pandemic. The report also shows that vacationers are four times more likely to book an all-inclusive package than a sharing economy vacation next year. Besides, responsible tourism was the key theme for the day. The tourist professionnels debated about the importance of nature and climate change in WTM Responsible Tourism sessions. 
Day 2 of WTM London 2021 saw a busy agenda with business meetings, speed networking, summits, awards and press conferences. One of the highlights is the UNWTO, WTTC & WTM Ministers’ Summit. Towards the recovery of the tourism industry with a focus on investment in sustainable tourism committed by tourism ministers from around the world. In the context of a complicated world pandemic, however, the warning about the threat of climate is emphasized even more than the dangers of Covid. This shows the dependence of tourism on nature and the important role of sustainable tourism development in the process of the tourism recovery. 

The last day ended successfully with press briefings, meetings and networking. Among the highlights of the third day was a dive into how PR and marketing can help the travel industry bounce back when the world reopens. In the debate: Revive and Thrive: Tourism PR in a Post-Pandemic World, PR experts and tourism boards carry the message that travel PR and marketing companies should celebrate and raise awareness of sustainable achievements of the tourism industry. Additionally, on the Travel Forward Stage, speakers discussed the future of travel marketing, while elsewhere issues including data breaches, payments and currencies were discussed.
